When someone looks at a person using a cane, a walker or a wheelchair, they may immediately think that there is not much joy in their life.

The thing is, because I am disabled it has forced me to find joy in the smallest of things that I might have totally overlooked before.

My husband and I attended my nine year old grandsons first basketball game of the season on a new team over the weekend. He did not know we would be there and his family would be late in arriving.

We saw the last few minutes of the first game and saw him score the final basket.

The first thing he did was to thank the referees and shake the hands of the loosing team. Then he ran across the court with the biggest smile on his face and hugged us both. You have to understand that this boy smiles with his entire body if that is possible and his eyes literally sparkle. I can’t imagine feeling anymore joy than I did at that particular moment. To be recognized as someone with unconditional love for another cannot be topped in the category of joy. It stays with you for eternity.
