Bliss
When a person is disabled, it can be difficult to find projects, hobbies or activities that can help pass time in a 24 hour day. Depending on the nature of the disability, many things that we enjoyed in the past may prove to be impossible.
Among my favorite things to do are creative arts, writing, sewing, baking, collecting and decorating.
As my MS progressed many of these became more and more difficult to enjoy, which in turn caused a lot of frustration. I needed something that would strengthen my eye/hand coordination, keep my brain active and reduce the boredom I was beginning to feel.
I had attended a few Creative Memories parties years ago but found it to be quite expensive and very time consuming.
Once my girls were grown and moved out, I tried going back to work but my MS prevented me from doing much of anything.
I had inherited all of the photo albums and vintage items when my parents passed. So I saw this as an opportunity to take up scrapbooking again. With the convenience of Amazon, I am able to purchase all the supplies I need at a reasonable price without forcing my husband to take me to a craft store (something he would rather die than go to).
It has been about twelve years since I began sorting, organizing and completing nearly 20 albums, with more to come now that I have grandchildren. When I am in the scrapbooking zone I can disappear in memories for 2-3 hours. After completing a page or an album I have a feeling of accomplishment knowing that I have preserved our families history.
So never give up searching for something you are capable of doing and that will bring you joy.
