We recently visited my daughter’s family here in Colorado.

The youngest, a boy, is about a year and a half old.

I have only seen him a handful of times in his young life. It is natural for babies to be cautious around people they aren’t familiar with. I must have seemed extremely strange to him as he refused to approach me nearly the duration of our visit. From a distance he would give me the funniest looks, as if I was from outer space. Maybe it was the wheelchair that frightened him or maybe that I was not able to lower myself down to his level.

In comparison, my granddaughter who spent many days in my company, was never guarded around me.

She would use me as a ladder without hesitation. So is the difference between comfortable and uncomfortable.

He is an adorable little guy and I hope as he grows he will become more confident being around me.
