While my daughter was attending nursing school, she worked as a CNA at a nursing home. She became attached to some of the patients that she attended to on a daily basis.

She shared a story with me about a woman that needed assistance getting into bed in the evening. The woman constantly complained about her back itching once she was settled for the night. Curious, my daughter rolled the lady onto her side so that she could get a better look for a possible problem. The woman’s nightgown was scrunched about causing her skin to itch up and down her back. A very easy solution to an annoying situation.

We all have our quirky issues that are faced every day that we deal with without a second thought.

When I think about my own, it is amazing to me how many I deal with that require assistance from my care giver. For instance, when I go to bed at night, I have to be square on the bed and in the middle of the pillow, the bed has to be raised at a particular height, the covers need to be arranged exactly so, temperature controller placed where I can reach it and my chapstick needs to be under the pillow on the right side, and if the sheets are wrinkled under me, they have to be smoothed out to avoid the itching problem that my daughter’s patient experienced. All of these things are easily accomplished for someone that doesn’t have mobility issues.

It is no wonder that my caregiver can get impatient sometimes!
