Perseverance
My oldest grandson lives and breathes all things and everything basketball, whether he is playing or viewing. He began participating at a young age and has continued to improve his skill level at a rate that astounds me. Over the last few years the competition and intensity of the game has increased significantly with other boys his age. He has suffered a dislocated shoulder and recently a broken ankle requiring him to wear a boot and no play for six to eight weeks. During these frustrating injuries he has continued to improve his skills as best he could. Working out, weight training and improving skills as his body has allowed him too.
He has remained dedicated to the sport and looks forward to the upcoming season.
As I have witnessed his perseverance, I am amazed that a 17 year old can possess the competitive spirit that he seems to live by.
In my own life, the slow deterioration of my ability to function everyday is a challenge that I never expected or was prepared for. Watching him grow physically and mentally has inspired me to keep pushing forward and to stay positive despite setbacks that Multiple Sclerosis throws my way.
