Cat Scratch Fever
It has been scientifically confirmed that having a cat in your life can reduce stress and anxiety. I have to admit that life feels less crazy with a kitty on your lap purring and making biscuits. I’m sure some would say dogs can have the same effect, but I am partial to cats.
I won my first kitty at age five after winning a carnival game while attending a neighborhood carnival. A cat has claimed me ever since. In my lifetime I have never been without one other than a few years during college.
My most recent two passed after nearly 12-15 years with me. They became a part of our family and I miss them both. By far my favorite was a black and white tuxedo that we brought home from the farm in western Kansas. She was an angel that my lap will forever miss!
So you may ask, “why have we not replaced them with another?”
As my MS continued to progress I became less able to care for them, which meant someone else had to take on that responsibility. Which usually ended up being my husband.
Between work, caring for our home and taking care of me, I believe that it is not fair to drop one more thing onto my husband’s plate. Don’t get me wrong, I know in my heart that if I said, “please can we adopt another kitty”, he would immediately take me to get one. That is just who he is and who knows, maybe someday we will weigh the pros and cons and decide to provide a home for another fluffy fur baby.
