Music still holds an important part of my day, from when I was young and hopefully for the rest of my life.

My first memory of music was as a fourth or fifth grader holding a transistor radio to my ear hoping to catch my favorite song and maybe recording it on a cassette player.

I began playing a flute in sixth grade through ninth and became quite good, playing first chair in concerts and musicals. To this day I regret not sticking with it.

After my MS diagnosis I made up my mind that I would learn to play the piano hoping to recover some of the joy I had as a teenager. It was much harder than I expected and my hand dexterity and fatigue made that dream fizzle out.

I listen to music everyday whether on my phone, on my iPad or in the car. I can tell a song is from the heart by how it affects me emotionally.

Recently, an MS warrior posted on the FB group I am with an excerpt off a song called “Still Surviving”, by Say It For Me Music. It was probably written as a breakup song but can be applied to any kind of a loss. Whether the death of a friend or family  member, a health crisis or the slow debilitation of function from Multiple Sclerosis and other diseases that take abilities physically or emotionally.

I find that songs like this help me cope with what has been taken away.

I hope you will listen and enjoy “Still Surviving “.
