After 15+ years of being in a wheelchair, my backside has become very sensitive. I do what I can to prevent any skin damage. Cushions, positions and chair changes throughout the day. For the most part, this has prevented anything other than nerve pain.

Long car trips are the absolute worse, due to only cushion changes and occasionally a bathroom stop.

We drove to Wichita, Ks this past weekend which is about a seven hour trip, for a conference we attend every year. I was pretty stressed about how my body would handle the journey and the three day event. In turn the stress causes other symptoms to elevate.

We always drive straight through on the trip home, as we are anxious to be in our own space.

When we approached the Grainfield/Grinnell exits we noticed a large black storm growing to the north/west.

If you have ever driven across Kansas you know what severe thunderstorms can do. It began as rain and some lightning but quickly turned into hail and wind. I have been in a lot of Kansas storms but this one was unlike any I have ever experienced. Hail the size of an apple and golf balls pounded the car. The largest hit the front windshield causing the damage in the picture I posted. Cars were taking refuge under every underpass, even sideways, blocking all but one crowded lane to pass through. We just kept driving and within 10 minutes the sky was blue, the sun was shining and the highway was dry.

Instant stress level overload!

All of this resulted in a migraine and terrible MS flares the following day.

Our next big trip will be a ten hour drive to Texas  in November.

I will definitely have to come up with some new seating arrangements.
